Poble Nou; High-Tech "Village" and Sea-Resort
The stretch from Barceloneta to the new Fórum is one long row of beaches, every single one clean and accommodating.

Barcelona has a history of using international, civic events to propel urban planning forward, and in 2004 the stage was set for a form of “Cultural Olympiad” . To host the events, the Fórum Universal de les Cultures 2004 was constructed. The giant, blue triangle (a 3200 seat auditorium and 5000sqm.of exhibition space) has been compared to anything from a spaceship to a cake. The site a former waste-land, now connects the Diagonal avenue with the new coastal development. The Fórum ties in with the “e-city” shaping up in the area, named Poble Nou 22@, a project to transform the former industrial village of Poble Nou into a high-tech centre for e-commerce. The emerging neighbourhood is still something of a work-in-progress, but with a new marina, innovative architectural projects and opening of new public spaces, the Diagonal Mar / Poble Nou neighbourhood holds a lot of promise for Barcelonins and visitors alike.
